There is a position available for a new member of the custom aptamer selection team. This role would be working closely with all members of the lab team, with a focus on the development of protein binding aptamers, to fulfill customer project specifications. The team member would report directly to the Production Manager.

The Role

  • Delivering laboratory focused aptamer selection data, as directed by your line manager
  • Writing accurate experimental plans, technical documents and reports
  • Recording, interpreting results and presenting findings regularly to senior management teams
  • Ensuring procedures are properly understood, carried out and evaluated; and that modifications are investigated if necessary
  • Assembling, maintaining and operating standard laboratory equipment
  • Supporting the Production Manager and CTO in developing, implementing, communicating and maintaining a quality plan
  • Continuous contribution to improvement and development of new and existing methods
  • Technical scientific support to other departments and clients

Required Duties and Responsibilities

  • Gathering technical information as directed
  • To provide technical support with other departments
  • Assist in maintenance of laboratory stocks, consumables and customer materials
  • Preparation of reagent stocks and QC / validation of purchased reagents where necessary
  • QC of internally prepared reagents
  • Ensuring compliance with QC processes
  • Assisting with the development and maintenance of regular reporting on operational performance measures
  • Following existing SOPs, worksheets and other QC paperwork
  • Assistance with general laboratory duties such as cleaning, maintenance and preparation of lab materials as and when required

Required Skills and Expertise

  • Active use of a Degree (e.g. BSc) in Molecular Biology, Biomedical Science or similar disciplines
  • Previous work experience in a commercial laboratory is essential (minimum of 1 year)
  • Good written, communication and interpersonal skills
  • Adept IT skills with a good working knowledge of Microsoft Office
  • The ability to work in a team is essential
  • Clear, consistent and methodical recording of information for laboratory purposes and QC
  • The ability to work independently and deliver to deadlines
  • The ability to work on multiple projects in parallel and prioritise workload is essential
  • Must possess a personal drive to seek out industry best practice and create efficiencies at every opportunity
  • Molecular biology techniques such as PCR / qPCR, PAGE, Western blotting, cloning, basic protein chemistry, ELISA, plate reader assays, UV spectrophotometry etc.

Preferred Skills and Expertise

  • Knowledge of aptamers and aptamer selection
  • Knowledge of protein-nucleic acid interactions and associated techniques (SPR, BLI etc.)
  • Knowledge of LIMS systems
  • Knowledge/use of liquid handling robotics
  • Familiarity with scientific software (BLItz Pro, SynGene, Biorad CFX manager etc.)
