We have been extremely busy this year with a number of projects including worldwide pharma companies. With the workload increasing to ease the pressure we have employed several new additions for our lab to help grow our expertise and services.

Dr Shraddha Aptekar

Shraddha has joined our team as Senior Research Scientist. Shraddha is a highly experienced scientist with an in-depth knowledge of aptamers used in fluorescent reporter assays for neurological cancer cell line screening, including flow cytometry and immunohistochemistry (FFPE). Shraddha is excited to make the move to York, she said: “I am looking forward to working in a commercial lab and using my expertise in FFPE to develop a range of aptamers to cancer targets”.

Chris Mapperley

Chris has recently graduated from York University and has joined the team as a Research Scientist. He has experience in the design and development of biosensors against illicit drugs and in his placement year, Chris completed research into the underlying genetics of neurodegenerative diseases which he thoroughly enjoyed. This is Chris’s first job since graduating, he is delighted to be working in a lab and commented: “I am really excited to join Aptamer Group, I realised on my placement that I love been in a lab and working on experiments, this role is the perfect fit for me”.

George Lockwood

George is joining our research team as a new graduate from Sheffield Hallam. George is experienced in liquid chromatography, having used HPLC to investigate contamination of dietary supplements. His main area of interest is in robot programming and the aptamer selection process. George is looking forward to joining aptamer and commented: “It’s great to use my skills on the robots; this is the area of science that I really enjoy and I’m excited to join the team as they expand and grow.”
